Where this is going
I’m Jamie, and this is the honest version. What works today, what I’m building next, and what I will never build. It is free while we get it right, so you should know what you are actually signing up to.
Working today
- Weekly logging — seven numbers, about a minute
- Chair utilisation — how full your week actually was
- Revenue per hour and per appointment
- What your empty appointments cost, weekly and over a year
- The shop's cut — rent or commission, so you see what you keep
- Tips, tracked separately so they never distort your pricing
- Mates' rates — the gap between your list price and what you actually average
- Trends by week and by month, with a 46-week income projection
- What-if scenarios for a price change or filling more gaps
- Free calculators, no sign-up needed
What I am building next
- Export and backup — your numbers as a file you keep. This is next, because right now everything lives on your phone and nowhere else. That keeps it private and it also means I cannot get it back for you if the phone goes in the sink.
- A Sunday summary — what changed, your quietest day, and one thing worth doing about it. I want something that makes me look forward to the week rather than a telling-off about the last one.
- An income goal — set what you want to earn and see every week measured against it
- Fixed costs — rent, insurance, products entered once, so you see profit rather than takings
- A tax pot — you pick the percentage, we do the arithmetic. What you choose to set aside, never a claim about what you owe.
Further out
- Service-level pricing — which cuts actually earn their chair time
- Monthly summaries you can hand to an accountant
- Busy and quiet periods — needs a full year of your weeks before it means anything, and we will not pretend otherwise
- Anonymous regional benchmarks — opt in, never a league table, and only once enough barbers are logging for it to be signal rather than noise
- Hairdressers, tattoo artists and beauty therapists — the same maths, different words. Barbering first, and properly, before anything else.
Things I will never build
- Your clients’ names, numbers or bookings. I do not want them and I will not ask.
- Booking or payments. Plenty of companies do that already and take a cut for it. I am not adding to the pile.
- League tables, or anything a shop owner could use to rank you by name. Owners will get their own view one day. It will never be a window into yours.
- Selling your data. Everyone is always trying to sell barbers something. Not here.
This page changes as things ship. If something here matters to you more than the order I have put it in, tell me. There are few enough of us right now that what founding members ask for is what gets built next. Email hello@knowyourchair.com and it comes to me.
Free while we build it. Log one week and see where you stand.
Know Your Chair logs seven numbers a week and turns them into utilisation, revenue per hour, and what your gaps are costing you — tracked over time instead of worked out once.
